The IMT has invited representatives from the Ministry of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Office of the President and Cabinet and also an IMT representative to unpack the Bill.

The Bill among other things seeks to establish an independent Commission responsible for investigating complaints from citizens against misconduct by members of the security services. The Commission will also be able to provide remedies such as compensation or recommending prosecution of the member for any misconduct

What is the IMT?

The Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on the Alignment of Legislation to the Constitution (IMT) was established by cabinet in February 2015 as an institutional platform and structure to facilitate the legislative alignment process. The IMT consists of legal advisors, senior state counsels and representatives from all Government ministries. The IMT is chaired by the Attorney-General of Zimbabwe. The role of IMT is to facilitate the alignment of legislation with the Constitution. This is being done with the technical support from the Centre for Applied Legal Research (CALR) and the financial support from the Delegation of the European Union.
