Right of Access to Information Initiative

This initiative aims to build capacities among communities on the use of the Constitutional provided for the right of access to information to promote socio-economic and environmental rights.

CALR has worked with communities in the City of Chitungwiza, empowering local residents and ratepayers with legal resources and services (including litigation support) to enforce their right to water and a clean and safe environment.

CALR has also conducted a survey to assess the challenges faced by communities in select districts of Zimbabwe (Isigodini, Budiriro, Chiundura, Lower Gweru, Chiredzi and Mutare) to utilize their right of access to information for the protection of socio-economic and environmental rights.

The findings of the survey informed the development of relevant legal information packages and tailor-made legal support to identified communities.
